I have yet to understand the constant weight struggle that is constantly under the scrutiny of societal view. I guess I’m not really sure why must everything be boiled down to pounds and ounces and what the scale reads. Even worse, there is no improvement in sight. An array of articles seemingly landed at my doorstep awaiting a response. Why is the world so obsessed with weight or in most cases the lack there of. In my opinion, the focus should be health or America’s lack there of. Whether too ‘fat’, too ‘skinny’, it all is a health related dilemma. At the epicenter of this great debate is the constant portrayal of overweight people, specifically women in the media and the stereotypes birthed within this cluster and what has developed include, but are not limited to the stereotyping that occurs ranging in different levels of unintentionality (I know this is not an actual word) to the downright choice to undermine someone’s abilities based on their outward appearance. I implore you, the next time you assume someone is lazy because they weigh 300+ pounds or automatically choose the person wearing the size 4 to be your running buddy, choose to also take a minute to stop and think if you came up with these thoughts on your own or if society boxed those stereotypes for you to carry around as baggage.
